One Taken and Another Left - Rapture or Romans?

Unread post by N.A.Basket »

Is Jesus speaking of the rapture here or the Romans? Also, please indicate whether you think the idea of a rapture is biblical. Luk 17:34-37 KJV 34 I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.35 Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.36 Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.37 And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.

It sounds like the answer Jesus gives about where they are being "taken" means "taken to wherever (dead) bodies are found, surrounded, (preyed upon), by "eagles" (powerful birds of prey).  Sounds like Jesus is saying that to be "taken" here means to be taken and killed and plundered by the Romans whose emblems they religiously carried everywhere and emblazoned on their uniforms were the eagles representing their false god Jupiter, (whom Paul refers to as, "the god of this world," I believe).  Notice how Jesus compared the coming of the Son of Man to "the days of Noah," where the ones "taken" were all the people "taken away by the flood."

Josephus graphically records how the Jews learned to pack bread around their jewels and gold and swallow them to hide their treasures from the Romans before surrendering. When the Roman soldiers saw the now captive Jews later plucking their treasures from their excrement, the Roman soldiers started slaughtering their captive Jews, huddling over the bodies, plucking the treasures from the remains. I think this is what Jesus foresaw and described as, "wherever the body is, there shall the eagles be gathered."
